Some synthetics in grooming products can alter endocrine (hormone) function
When using skin and hair care products made with synthetic core ingredients, we either have to repeatedly apply them throughout the day, or the masks the dryness with shininess while suffocating our skin and clogging our pores. In addition, the synthetic components are absorbed through our skin into our blood stream and ultimately, our organs, tissues, and cells. Since they are not natural (i..e. plant- and/or mineral-based), the body cannot process many of the synthetic components safely, so what does the body do with them? Better yet, what do they do to the body? Here is a short (but not an all-inclusive) list of common cosmetic preservatives and why they are hazardous:
Some people are allergic to synthetic ingredients that they are not aware of in their grooming products.
Read your ingredients lists for grooming products, and choose those that are plant- and/or mineral-based.
Remember: You are what you wear on your skin and hair. It all gets absorbed.
The first 3 to 5 ingredients in most ingredients lists comprise the majority of the ingredients in most grooming products.
If your grooming products are not predominantly and/or entirely non-GMO plant-based raw material (i.e. the plant-based ingredient will have a genus and species name associated with its more common name) or non-synthetic mineral-based raw materials (i.e. minerals are naturally-occurring inorganic nutrients that must be mined from the earth and are often cofactors that assist in the stepwise completion of metabolic processes), then there is a higher likelihood that your cells will not recognize the molecular structure of those components, resulting in an increase chance of those ingredients stimulating irritation, inflammation, and/or allergy. Furthermore, synthetics: a) can trigger allergies directly, b) can be metabolized into more toxic byproducts that trigger allergies, and/or c) get sequestered (i.e. walled off) as tumors or worse. So, it's best to avoid them Instead of synthetic products, choose water-based moisturizers and natural butters and oils to seal in the moisture. All of Good Hair Good Body’s products fit this category.
